Angst--an unease of the digestive system, causing it to tightly clench and generally foul up the works, encouraging the self to delve into archaic, submental states. Their environment would become darker, more full of sharp things, other sentients would play intentional zero-sum games with them. It is rumoured that famous artisans deliberately entered this state to get in touch with their less matural state and that, as often as is not, they would become addicted. It is also rumoured that a lot of the simulated sentients from the Dirt part of the Puzzle have had this, use it as a sign of higher-order cognancy and coherence.
Some of the more famous players of Angst are:

- Sosael - repeatedly forced (she claims) into a madwoman self

- Twin - unable to quite let go of (her) destructive past at times
- Alizarin - suffering from the world's most uppity case of writer's block
