Most of the items needed for everyday life can be instantiated from the atmosphere of the Mess with no more than a thought. But that still doesn't mean there's aren't special or unique objects. For one thing, you can only instantiate an object if it occurs to you that it could exist in the first place. For another, you have to comprehend what it does. If something has a secret feature, you can't ask the Mess to replicate it unless you know what it is! This act of innovation, alone, guarantees that there will always be artists, inventors, and craftspeople in the Mess.
