Nova

Physical Appearance

Nova appears most closely as possibly a member of some unknown transitional reptilian or amphibian class, though only a few of his outward features would suggest even that much. He's perhaps the image of what an alligator, or a salamander, might look like if it were made to stand upright, as far as the structure of his limbs and their proportions are concerned; his hind legs located only midway through his length, with a thick tail continuing through for at least the distance of his standing height.

However, few other analogies can be made to these possible ancestors. Unlike many reptilians, his frame seems particularly less delicate, and completely absent of scales. Rather, Nova dons little except a full pelt comprised of some hybrid between ruffled downy feathers and a feline's soft fur. For those insensitive to the light spectrum below 700nm, this coat offers little to no reflection; appearing as a deeply pitched, uniform black.

Atop this body sit a pair of heads, each quite vaguely reminiscent of having an underlying structure near that of a fox's, save perhaps for the blunted muzzle and their pairs of wet, onyx-like eyes the size of discuses. These, reflected off the right source, occasionally betray a faint hint of dark crimson - one of the few instances of color on his entire body. The only others appear to be the smoky grey of the gently rounded nosferatu claws adorning each of his paws' digits and a hue of a warm orange-brass illumination visible in his maws when either is open, appearing to originate from somewhere deep below its throat. It's easy to notice in these instances a faint distortion in the air of his breath, akin to the waves one might see rising from a stretch of searing desert highway.

Background

On his homeworld, Sandras Yi, Nova was hailed as a prophet at birth: the revered dicephallic Kit'slin. It was a title which came with little privilege, but all the social stigma of unwilled religious celebrity. From his position in the temple-capital, Nova grew into the midst of adolescence - unable to associate normally with any of his peers or satisfy his elders with the supernatural wisdom he was supposed to posses - before The Council decided that this prophet thing just wasn't working out. Given provisions and a warm farewell, they ushered him quietly into a rocket pointed at the sky; into his "great pilgrimage" and out of Yi's cultural memory.

Nova originates from a dark and highly geologically active world, belonging to a semi-aquatic race which subsides from thermal vents and a small selection of plants. As his resulting required internal body temperature has a ridiculous number of digits, a supplementary internal furnace is needed for basic well-being in any climate too dissimilar to his own. This, along with inherent issues of duality, makes it somewhat difficult to achieve any satisfying degree of physical closeness.

Both the eyes and the lack of visible pigmentation stem from existing on a world where very little of the traditional color spectrum can penetrate. Their art, consequentially, is highly concentrated in the verbal tradition, mythos, and storytelling, combined with certain works drawn either thermally or in very low frequency light.
