Nikolai's latest invention is something he's been working to complete for several weeks now. It's a Subjectivity Distortion Generator, similar to one he used once to build his Lab. He's entirely driven to complete this project, but not entirely sure how or why he is. A conversation with ojou suggested that the machine itself is trying to be created, and is distorting things in its own past to enable its own creation. The intent of the machine is to create a temporary realm of destabilized reality, to aid in character's creativity and general mental health. But the machine, as anything Nik creates, has the potential to go wrong and even explode.
A very strong possibility is that Nikolai has somehow powered the machine with the essence of one extremely subjective Zoe, either trapping her essence inside or drawing off this same power source. Is this source a universe of complete improbability and bizarrity? Maybe Zoe is zirself a generator. Maybe the engine created Zoe retroactively after Nik built it. We have yet to see.
There has been much speculation on what this machine will do once switched on. Even by Nikolai himself isn't sure what might happen.
Judging by the tests that have not been happening already, the machine at the very least breaks walls and boundaries between the Mess' consensus reality and the higher levels of reality that exist. More than just subjectivity, it seems to shatter OOC and fourth-walls, tapping into the 'real world' and the mind of the Player. This might be a bug. It might be an intended feature. Intended by whom? That is the real question that perhaps only the Red King can answer.
It's been turned on. The results of this will be felt for quite a while. Even though it's supposedly off now. What happened? A meta-gestalt emerged from the merging of characters. And another character was spawned from a different process, which will be known later.
