Haruki is a young male cat-recom standing about 1.7 metres (5'6") tall. His soft fur is a deep, vivid royal blue, as clean as new plastic. His face is that of the classic domestic feline, with sharp ears, faintly blue-pink on their insides, above bright cyan-green eyes that seem almost to glow against the darker fur of his face, and a short, discreetly whiskered muzzle. His long, straight headfur is an incongruous deep purplish scarlet, cascading to either side of his blue-furred face. Delicately fluted chrome-silver antennae rise from just behind his ears, ending in two ovoid palps that bob lightly in any passing breeze. Today he has applied a dark band of eyeshadow across his eyes and the bridge of his muzzle, making himself look at once feminine and subtly predatory. Glittering triangular earrings of silver wire dangle from his ears. He's brashly dressed in the latest styles from Luna's Sakurabana-Hari zone: a richly colored, midnight blue sport jacket of some shimmering metallic fabric, open over bare fur, and glossy silver PVC jeans, tight over his slim, elegant legs. His soft cat-tail weaves silently behind him, emerging from the usual hole; At each of his wrists is a simple bracelet of lustrous gunmetal-gray alloy.
Haruki is a member of a race of genetically engineered anthrofelines, and grew up in the center of that society's libertarian-socialist postscarcity leisure society, under the dome of Luna's Copernicus Crater. Cheerfully arrogant in his self-confidence and belief in the superiority of his culture, and unrepentantly, selfishly hedonistic, he nevertheless has a core of decency and goodwill, having come from a culture where kindness had a low cost and civic-mindedness was inculcated in children at an early age.
He was transported to the Mess by a mysterious figure in an act that could be interpreted as gift, curse, or prank. He likes the Mess quite a bit, and has a vague sense that he's supposed to be doing something terribly important there, but his day to day activities usually consist of taking hallucinogens and observing the chaos around him.
(OOC note: Haruki's society is essentially equal parts satire and loving homage to the technocratic-modernist zeitgeist at its high-water mark, from the mid-1950s to the late 1970s, with a dusting of psychedelic and early-video-game aesthetics. It's also a Canadian-in-exile's homesickness for and ironic comment on the country of his birth, which seen from early 21st century America seems much more sane than his current host nation, even as he recognizes and remembers its faults.)
Haruki makes his home in Downwarp, often hanging out at a hole-in-the-wall club called The Mind Electric, but frequently visits Upwarp, which reminds him strongly of his home on Luna.
Haruki is from a culture with near-magical technology, although still posessing nothing like Puzzlebox's level of reality control, and is distinctly postfeline. Most of his enhancements, however, are boring public-health nanotech, making him near-immortal, but having few obvious effects on his body or behavior. The only obvious sign of the techne that swarms under his fur is the pair of antennae on his head.
