An
Upwarp social club which sponsors artistic exhibitions and performances, particularly at special occasions such as New Cycle Day. They are known for their immensely complicated zero-gravity dances in which hundreds of amateur enthusiasts create precise, ever-shifting geometric and fractal patterns in midair - sometimes in more than three spatial dimensions.
OOC notes
If someone can think of a better name, feel free to suggest it here.
Inspirations:
- [This account] by Fred Hapgood of a Tech Squares dance at MIT.
- The idea of Up as something like Switzerland or perhaps Germany: tidy, efficient, neutral, rationalist, the sort of people who'd invent a typeface like Helvetica... but with a peculiar set of traditions lurking under the surface: yodeling, alpenhorns, cheese, cuckoo clocks, funny trousers. Perhaps these folk traditions are inherited from whatever came before Up (see comments for The Mess). It might also draw on the heritage of those who have immigrated to Up from elsewhere.
- For some reason this makes me think of the Space Channel 5 games. Organizing massive, mobile improvisational dances whose size and quality is based on the actions of a central caller (the better and more respected you are, the more people you'll have willing to be choreographed on the fly)--I'd certainly pay attention! - Ghastwain
