By popular demand, here are the pics I took at Anthrocon 2005. They fall into three basic categories: friends from PBX, fursuits and costumes, and downtown Philly architecture. I've shrunk them down to about half their original size; if anyone wants a full-size original, let me know and I'll be happy to email it.
Puzzlebox Peeps
The PBX Partyish Thing, Part 1! From l to r, half of Ataxia, Torque in the chair, Untitled and Roque on the bed. JinWei in costume on the floor with Twin's stockinged legs to his right.
The PBX Partyish Thing, Part 2! From l to r, Twin, Ataxia, Syzygy, Torque.
The PBX Partyish Thing, Part 3! From l to r, Fyren, Induction-Coil, Foonly on the floor drawing, XOR, Twin.
The PBX Partyish Thing, Part 4! From l to r, XOR, OR, Induction-Coil. The party where these four pics were taken was summarized by Foonly's drawing in [this post].
Chilling in the Wyndham lobby... From l to r, Torque, Induction-Coil, Maichirona, Ataxia, JinWei. Untitled sitting on the floor.
Same spot, later that night... From l to r, Twin, XOR, Leviathan-chan.
Maichirona got her face painted!
A closeup of the detail on Mai's new spots. The artist did a great job.
Mai posing with the con badge Twin did for her. XOR is wearing the blinky pink cat ears just to the left, to the right is Roque.
Twin and Mai posing with the con badge and Mr. Jackson. Twin's first con badge sale, yay! To the right is OR with Roque on the far right.
On Sunday we descended into the underbelly of downtown Philly, wandering half-abandoned corridors with shuttered shops and various signs pointing this way or that directing us to streets above or trains below, oddly reminiscent of the much rumored Puzzlebox subway system.
Posing in front of a brass and glass elevator that descended to parts unknown in what would be a portion of the subway somewhere between Down and Top, l to r, Torque, Maichirona, Induction-Coil, XOR, OR, Leviathan-chan, Ataxia.
Further along the undercity, probably moving closer to the Up section now. That explains the blurriness, from the inter-warp interference... From l to r, XOR, Induction-Coil, Leviathan-chan, yours truly, Ataxia.
Fursuits and Costumes
JinWei's full costume
Jack!
A pair of fox fursuits with accessories! They had a few different outfits.
A cute little hedgehog critter.
o/~ It's the cirrrrcle of liiiiife... o/~
SHARKY! Moments after this picture was taken, the wolf plushie backpack in the lower right was messily devoured.
Fursuit parade highlights...
Someone swiped Jack's scythe...
A humanoid orca critter, followed by The Saddest Lycra Tiger Evar.
Zig-Zag!
A feline... elf... drow... thing?
A very confused Jedi critter.
And bringing up the rear, someone fresh out of the shower. Yay, no stinky fanboys!
Other Stuff
The excellent Stan Sakai, pausing for a picture on his way to the airport.
The sign reads, "Your hero, Jugular Jaguar, keeping you safe from raccoons." I don't know either.
Saturday afternoon, in the middle of the con, there was a wedding in the hotel. This is the wedding reception in the cordoned-off bar of the hotel. You can see a red-shirted Dorsai Irregular (con security) near the bottom. Amazingly, the two events apparently co-existed without a problem.
Philly Architecture
Unfortunately my digital camera is old and the zoom kinda sucks, so I didn't get nearly as much detail as I would've liked.
The light beige areas are actually tilework, from what I could see. The colors don't really come through in the picture. :(
City Hall
The aboveground portion of the rail station.
A closeup of the roofline.
The roof of the building to the right of the rail station. Check out the balcony work.
City Hall, closer now. In the lower right are Leviathan-chan, OR, Induction-Coil and XOR.
A couple of churches to the left of City Hall.
An old church on the street between the Wyndham and the main overflow hotel, where I was staying with Untitled and JinWei.
Another church on the same street.
Another shot of the same church. It's hard to see, but the dome was verdigris green and the cross on top was polished brass or gold. Very striking.
A tiny church, nestled between the hotel and a neighboring high-rise.
