Shear

Shear is the common term for a being whose physical and/or mental makeup has splintered. Most often, it occurs in composite personae - beings who have combined their personalities after birth, but it can occur in others as well.

The traditional process of designing and creating offspring in the Mess involves the combination of genetic and memetic material from the parents. It is a complex craft, and occasionally it goes wrong. Usually shearing occurs within the first cycle after birth, but it can happen any time.
