Description

Upwarp -- Gamma Sector
The air feels fresh and cool as if it'd just rained, the sky only just
past sunset. You stand at the edge of a spacious square, an iced glass
sculpture in the middle illuminating the surroundings with bright, white
light. There seem to be plenty of people around, looking happy, if not
very vocal about it. Most of them are surprisingly organic and beautiful
in apperance, wearing little if any clothes with only detailed bands or
bracelates to adorn them, but there's something odd about them... the
shapes are perfect to the smallest detail, but there are definite,
almost proud displays of their constructed nature; mother of pearl skin
here, metallic spots there, you even see a fully translucent ringtail
cross the square, the sculptures casting spectral rainbows through his
body. Colourful holographic spheres hover around him, each sending a
different sensation through the person that touches them, but all
improving their mood.
The streets branching off appear to be themed, each designed to cater to
a specific need or sensation. The closest one is covered in sensual
graffiti, the next one leads to a holo theatre, while another still has
a group of people lined up before a Sensorium, some of them surrounded
in sensation spheres to attract patrons with. A large orca passes you
by, his skin polished black and white wood, nude form perfect to the
finest detail. He gives you a seductive grin and leans in for a kiss,
but though you feel it, he is physically still a step away. Winking, the
orcinus walks away, getting lost in the crowd.
Instead of a terminal, a milky white plastic lynx stands by the side,
the droid's decadent yet artful metal skeleton only partially covered by
the white plastic skin, her smile helpful but empty. If you need
information, looking at her will activate her greeting protocols.
If you want to leave the sector, simply enter the Quick-<Transit>
System. Above rises the shimmering <tower> of the Psychoanalytical
Building.

Methods

Gamma Sector believes in a diversity of methods and technologies. (There Is A Solution To Every Problem.) New methods of psychological manipulation and treatment are under constant study in the Psychoanalytical Building.

Among current methods...

• Drugs, both routinely prescribed and recreational. Routine drugs (of which the nanopharmaceutical Stable is only one popular example) act as preventatives and maintain a particular desired mental frame. Recreational drugs provide an escape and keep their users happy, relaxed and well-adjusted, if used in moderation. (Joypad is a popularly used drug of this type. Logic-Liaison, Epiphany and Golden Falcon are used as performance enhancers.)
• Hypnotherapy
• Sensoria and Sensation Spheres
• Mind and Body Adjustment, ranging from chemical rebalancing to psycho-cybernetic implants to neurosculpting.

Allies and Inhabitants

• the [Committee for the Establishment of Beneficent Standards in Neuro-Psychological Research and Treatment]?, sometimes colloquially called the Psycharchy, debates and determines the criteria for a well-adjusted mind under which the sector operates. They profess to be a candid and benign body, with no ulterior motives and nothing under the table (they publish their minutes and hold open debates to that end). But there are always those who doubt. They may be aligned with [Omega Sector]?.
• the Center for the Study of Infectious Agents has a lab in the Psychoanalytical Building.
