Once upon a time, I had this character I made up when I was very young. He was The Nobody, a being of inside-out entropy, of order through chaos. He was anything he needed to be, anything he wished to be. He could do anything, because anything was possible in a place where nothing exists. I would draw him as a simple smiley-face with stick-figure arms (my art skills have hardly improved since that time). The Nobody lived in a very confusing castle where you went where you needed to go, whether you wanted to be there or not.
I made him a god of one of my many worlds, and tried to introduce him to a muck in my early days of mucking. He didn't stick; the concept was too much work for me at the time.
Move forward about ten years. I'd forgotten about The Nobody, until now, after I've been playing Echo for slightly more than six months...
Echo as spirit has no specified gender, not even "it". I'd been wondering for a while if anyone had noticed that, but I guess I was just phrasing things so naturally that nobody thought to mention it. I suppose that's noteworthy in and of itself, really.
Echo has become too much me for comfort in a constantly IC environment. I think it's time to move on for a while, and play someone else.
Characters played:
- Echo (obviously)
- Th'thsthn
- Xa (Did you know that he's supposed to have a fake Scottish accent?)
Themes I'd like to see more of:
- Animism
- Wildernism (Opposite of urbanism - nearly all "wilderness" in the Mess is deliberate rather than truly wild. How would someone who loves natural places feel about that?)
Projects I need to work on:
- The amusement park for Charm
- Need descs, mostly. Structure I can throw up mad-crazy as long as I can visualize the spaces and connections.
- Charmtubes
- Besides Elelator Go Up! to the Park there'll probably also be
- Elelator Go Down The Hole! which includes windows on the inner workings of Charm land, and probably a link to the subway system. And then
- Rides to Star City Nearby which should terminate in a little parking zone where there's always a little putt-putting flying scooter to take you across a few hundred meters to Star City.
- Oh yeah, and We All Live Together Here which will be one of several central meeting place for Charmtube access.
- The [Free Expressionists]? faction
- Their philosophies
- their activities
- and their housing (in Down?)
- The ritual grove in Top (usable now as-is, just needs to be reviewed and connected)
- Add time-based seasonal descs to the main desc
- How long should I make the full seasonal cycle?
- What seasons should I use, and how long should they last (if not equally balanced)?
- Add seasonally appropriate lists for noise.muf (set when the @desc is looked at, yay mpi)
- cicadas in summer (if I use summer)
- Write the Tome of Rites - the rites will include:
- Advance the Seasons, Set the Season
- Fire, Water, Wind, Earth
- Sealing and Unsealing
- Hiding and Revealing
- Celebrations and Mourning
- Cursing and Blessing
- Sowing, Reaping, Fertility and Barrenness
- Light and Darkness
- Balance and Upset
- need more ideas... it's a damn big book, you know?
- Perhaps the first rite to include might be a rite of reading the tome, a greeting to the book and a prelude to/preperation for whatever other ceremonies are to be performed. Rites are a serious business after all, and one that should be prepared for. That might naturally suggest a rite of closing the tome, too.-Moko^2
