This is a sort of "classified ads" page. If you have an idea for a sort of character you'd like to see on the MUCK, a neat idea you don't have time to play yourself, an archetype that you think is underused, or an NPC you'd like somebody to play in a specific
plot, list it below! If you use one of these characters, please make a note of it after the idea listing!
If you decide to flesh out an idea but still make it available for anyone to play, consider listing the character as a Mask.
Also: besides characters, there are other sorts of things We'd Love To See on the muck.
- A Topwarpian Swordsmaster. Not the kind of swordsman you see in things like D&D, but the more philosophical bent, with a heavy dose of mystical belief, inner-focus and inner-strength. Note that this doesn't mean necessarily engaged in violence- fencing duels are rarely to the death, for instance, and dueling has been an acceptable method for resolving arguments for quite some time. If a group used dueling to settle internal debates, the position of Swordmaster would come quickly, especially if the belief of the blade comes into play. While this notion is highly reminiscient of piecemeal Oriental practices, it fits wholly with the spirit of Top- aesthetic perfection with philosophical and spiritual development as a bonus.
- We need more faction members in general. There're a lot of factions with one active representative member or no active characters. But... don't force yourself to make a faction character just to fill that faction out. Believe me, that leads to not playing the character (making the point moot) and fatigue. And you don't have to make a character specifically for a faction. Some of the better-developed faction members were played as unaligned characters for some time before they joined a faction. So try just having one of your already created characters join a faction! ;)
- Titanium-armored Valkyries needed as Cornelius' cohorts, a villainous and cluelessly futile megalomaniac. Two needed. Must be willing to roleplay the conversion of the character from thier original state into a part of The Roma Cycle. Will involve mindfuckery of all sorts, genetic manipulation and possibly gory surgery. End result will be a white-furred character driven by the Roma databasing/parsing software, pupil-less, clad in titanium platemail armor with back-mounted thrust jets instead of wings. Should have a stoic personality in public. Read the History section of Cornelius' Wiki page for more info on Cornelius and the Roma cycle, and the History of Conflicts section for information on the sort of things he does. Page #mail Cornelius on the MUCK if you're interested or want to know more.
- One of Maya Lanski's rubber jackal [sect] (with her permission)
- When I first heard Ataxia's backstory, I found myselfy wondering if she was a former member of them. -Twin
- Quite possibly so, and if if this sect gets a little more fleshed out and established as existing here, then I can easily make that cannon for her. I play a sometimes rubber jackal elsewhere. It wouldn't be inconcievable that Ataxia is the result of her future 'death'. Actually, beautifully so.. ~Ataxia
- Three new Eisenstimmen in one week! Still need more. And how about the Strange Medical Corp? --Torque
- Not just three new, but even a fourth being developed as well. In fact, if any of you have ideas you'd like to submit, feel free and I'll consider them! Also considering the possibility of a future Strange Medical Corps alt. - Phys-FM
- Working on the Hemotopians, personally. At least, Morgan's trying to gather a bunch of them around his banner...still looking for others for his Court. Anyone interested in it, pester me regarding it (Or just prostrate yourself before Morgan and suck up). - Morgan
- Nala from the Lion King, reimagined as a feisty Afrocentrist activist who's renounced her "slave name" and works to bring other oppressed copyrighted characters to the MUCK via underground railroad
- We'll work on the other side of time. We'll bring them here through either isotope teleportation, transmolecularzation - or better still, teleport the whole planet here through music... -- Sun Ra, Space Is The Place
- a character whose entire existence has been "remixed" with another character's by some kind of magical-realist turntable technology; the character may be fully aware of what they are and who their source material is
- Fully accredited Toymaker? engineer. A specialized authority at least on how to operate the machinery in the tower, such as the memory viewing (and editing?) machines.
- An inexplicable being of some sort who thinks of the Mess as a theme park: Puzzlebox or Cube Tree t-shirt, Bermuda shorts, sandals, zinc oxide on a few tentacles, sunglasses, three cameras, a Twin-head-flange shaped hat, a plush Serpent, and a packet of silvery candy that makes xem look like xe's drooling Strangevirus.
- Perhaps a public character, for people wanting to take a vacation, or a "getaway" telepresence android? What about a time-limited character, someone only here for some time as a short trip away from home, and then gone back to whatever interdimensional netherrealm spawned such beast in the first place? --Roque
- Bubble Doll engineer - different level of integration and direction to allow more critical progress on more difficult to process converts (say, if Ataxia or Twin ever joined, for instance..) or similar while the remainder of the faction giggles on to more general tasks. Takes the collected suggestions, makes up stuff on zir own, and has the focus to impliment it! Likely more prone to Bubbledoll Crash, due to a lessened protective barrier, though not without being pushed by a teasing Hemotopian or the like. Also likely to deal with the trashing the Dolls sometimes get at a whim of more malevolent individuals, and do it quite cheerfully!
- One such was probably involved in my transition from Fever Cathedral to Bubble Doll - all those guitar skills retained, audio gear absurdly enhanced, ego carefully calibrated between normal Doll egolessness and the amount needed for rock'n'roll. Artisan-class Doll rather than the more common Servitor. -Jini <3
- Monty waves a big upper arm, bright perky smile at the ready. "Here I am!"
- I had imagined such things in trying to work out the structure of Doll society and organization (though I don't know all the IC realities or concepts yet, so my mind might wander into oddities rather than realities), so the idea has been interesting to me for some time.. I think I'm probably going to have to use this idea myself eventually, and take it off here, if I can find a few good hooks in.. -Ataxia
- A +50-year-old Otissian or two, or perhaps one who hasn't made the disembodiment choice yet.
- The Strange-corrupted, self-styled High Disciple of Strange, who communes with the Strangevirus as the priest of an arcane faith might with their deity. A grotesque, disturbed, yet benign individual, someone to put a more positive and powerful light on the mysteries of Strange.
- Remind me to tell you about the Doloristas sometime. They were a benevolent charitable order of sadomasochists and would probably fit in very well as a bunch of twisted "good guys" in Strange. Their founder, Sister Murcielago de la Caberna de las Estrellas could be adapted into someone pretty close to what you're describing! -- OR
- Whenever I hear the song ["Laura's Aura"] by Combustible Edison, I think of some fickle Bottomish dilettante, with a soulful, wistful side that nobody sees. Either someone trying to find a fixed point in a life of ever-shifting relations and amusements... or someone who has given up completely, conceding herself body and soul to ephemerality. Somebody who has chosen to ignore every warning that comes out of Top, has seen things that they never will because of it, but has gone a little batty in the process...
- An anthropomorphised fruity dessert, candy, plain fruit, or tasty pastry.
- Parity and I came up with a delightfully creepy take on this (before this page was written, oddly enough). Hopefully it'll see the light of day soonish... --Kehari?
- Creepy? I really don't think she was creepy at all... just a little unusual, that's all. I certainly wouldn't expect anyone to be bothered by the idea. I should put that desc together, now that you mention it though. -Parity
- From Telezonia? ~Ataxia
- I've got one in the works. Hooray for me. ~[T. C. Procyon]?
- Ataxia and I just notice there's really a bit of a shortage of non-herm, non-abstract, non-celibate males on Puzzlebox. Am I crazy, or have other people noticed this, too? I might have to actually try to figure out what being male is like and get another alt just to balance things out. :p -- OR
- You just noticed that now? ;D Hardly a surprise, really... but yes: more guys! I think we could definitely use some Eisenstimmen around the place, m'self. --Amanita
- I'd probably never be able to play a really macho character, but I could see myself (or someone else) doing sort of an Eisenstimmen-meets-King-Mob-from-the-Invisibles mystic skinhead with piercings and a big smirk... -- OR
- I, uh, find that concept rather interesting. Please, please, someone try this. --Aeysh
- What's "male"? --Twin
- Severely underrated, and tragically widely-feared. --Talib
- Oddly enough, I think Phoenix is about as close to being really male as it gets. He virtually ignores his femside most of the time. --Phoenix
- At the risk of sounding clueless, seeing as how I haven't actually logged in yet :), my interpretation of this is simply that PBX's themes are far more friendly to feminine gender traits than masculine ones and the playerbase follows accordingly. --Murotunikel?
- At the risk of sounding brusque, no. --Talib
- Speaking as a player of not one but two non-herm, non-abstract, non-celibate males ... when are you going to log on and have sex with us? --Foonly
- Not sure how long this has been a failing, but Aeysh is most definitely male, non-celibate, though I guess in some ways he's kind of abstract. But not. --Aeysh
- A character who's come about simply by the belief of many others - a Myth made real, an ideal so repeated that they come into existence, due to Puzzlebox's reality consensus. This could apply to many of the above characters!
- <small>Quick! Someone go grab a nameless immortal from Strange, and have him tell eleven people his name is Adahn.
- Pretty much GrayZero in a nutshell. You could use "the Endless" (Dream and his siblings) from [The Sandman] comics as a springboard, perhaps. --Talib
- More subfunctions and other characters like aex.rat who directly inhabit the Mess's "server" instead of its mere physical plane. Such characters need to be of any particularly significant power, adminstrative or otherwise.
- I keep thinking of taking g0 more in this direction - 'the self-knowledge subfunction' or something. Certainly she already meets the existential requirement, and she's been known to mess with what you think you're hearing. --GrayZero
- Recently Nikolai gave Sweet William a sack full of StrangeKittens to take to the Library. They live in the library, fulfilling who knows what purpose, tended by who knows what creatures. If interested in playing the group, or one of them, go ahead! They're small, utterly innocent, Strangely cute creatures capable of that special breed of act that can come from the moral hollowness that is pure, consequenceless innocence.
- These would differ from regular cats how, precisely? -- OR :)
- Last I checked, regular cats didn't infect you with liquid computer viruses. ^.^ - Phys-FM
- After cleaning up cat barf about a dozen times last week, I have my own theories. --Amanita
- BEWARE! Another shameless plug on my part. I'm still in the process of trying to work out a concept for an Eisenstimmen character. Currently, I've got a small bank of ideas, but I'm open to any other opinions or suggestions that anyone else has. Feel free to post notes on my page if there's anything else in particular you all want to see, and I can at least consider it! - Phys-FM
- I saw a feature in the New York Times's style and fashion magazine, T, about the new "masculine-feminine" fashions of this season. It was a photo spread of one woman dressed up as a buck, with huge prosthetic antlers (the same transgender implications as the Down statue?), and another woman dressed up as a hunter -- in a rather conservative-looking deerskin corset and matching jacket. It occurred to me that look, or Victorian hunters-club themes in general, would go really well with Top...
- This is more of a regular NPC idea, but - more sentient buildings, sentient chairs, et cetera would be nifty. How wonderful it would be to be just a simple chair, after all? All you ever do is look good and provide comfort to weary sentients. So gratifying...
- Maybe the first writeup here? Not exactly a chair or building, but close enough in my book. -Kayle
