Omni
Physiology:
Omni is, upon close examination, a gestalt of independant ameobic
[chromatophore]-containing cells. Intercellular communication is done by electromagnetics, and as such, even in the limiting physics it knows, shape, size, color, texture, and count is set on a whim.
In short, Omni is composed of an organic analog of nanites. For the sake of brevity, its cells have been called cellites. There is no specialization within its cellites, so strange and bizarre concepts like organs, bones, and a central nervous system are still stumbling blocks for it.
Origins:
Omni's home is near-forgotten memory. This is not to say Omni does not want to return to its home-moon. It still remembers the methane geysers and beautiful landscapes, the planet and other moons setting in the sky.
There is another memory, however, of travelling to another planet. It is a scientist, and it was sent to study and document the inhabitants there. It took a form similar to the natives there, and began about its duty. This duty has been cut short, however, because Omni is now in the Mess, far away from either the homemoon or the assigned planet. Those two are probably in an entirely different plane of existence.
Unofficially, the best theory put forth is that Omni was a group of cells accidentally left behind in the laundry. These cells were transported to Puzzlebox, the magical land where socks go when they mysteriously dissapear.
Traits:
Omni does speak, and it has several means:
- With a specific form, especially a doppelganger or a costume, it will use a single voice to add to the illusion. Rarely are they a full mimickry, as it leads to heavy confusion.
- While as a blob, it will form a mouthhole, an shape to resemble a mouth and project an echo or a voice-synth. An echo is simply that. While volume and word stress can be changed, (turning a statement into a question and such) the words are reflections of what was just said by others.
- The most common means that Omni uses is called a voice-synth. Omni will 'speak' with the mimickry of the last 6 voices (of its chosing). The result is a chorus chanting words in unison, with a voice here or there recognizable. This is a highly voluntairy act, so volume, pitch, and voice choice is under its control.
Further thoughts about how Omni works is stored in the OOC theories of gestalt.
Known forms:
At first thought, a catalog would be rather pointless, as Omni can change shape on a whim. However, there are a few reoccurring forms that are known to Omni's new friends.
- An amorphous blob, the standard form it will take when exploring or simply wanting to express itself.
- Jini's doppelganger, a dark orange version of the bubble doll, completely devoid the the musical trappings of the origional. Save for resonating, and being the instrument.
- Kelly?'s doppelganger, who matches in coloration. Differing details are a lack of suit or jewelry, and some slight changes to the extremities.
- A rubber raccoon femme, a vestage from Omni's past. A friendly native from the assignment gave it would could be considered a suit or a costume, for Omni to fill and give the illusion of a bipedal vertebrate underneath the artificial skin.
- A collection of various beings, all the results of various discarded costumes from Mod, each filled with about 2kg of Omni.
- One such costume is an imitation of System. It's obviously a caricature, but good for the twin photos nonetheless.
Buddings
Omni has already created progeny, using its nature to send colonies of cellites to be with others, including:
- Keratin, a colony on Blue that often serves as her hair, and is able to communicate with her nanos, serving as a voice of emotion and balance.
- Kelly's suit has fused with another colony, during an interesting night involving powerful chemicals and pretzels. The sanity of such a gestalt is still in debate. Recently, the suit has formed a mental link with Kelly, so things will get interesting.
- Coalesce desired to know the light-based language that Omni can use, so Omni gave him a small set of Cellites to instruct him, as well as to serve as a pseudopsychic link.
Buddings have unique personalities and identities independant of Omni, strongly dependent on the state of Omni at the time of budding. They keep in contact, like all cellites are apt to do, by 'memory syncs', where upon revisiting each other, the cellites, using light and pattern, tell each other of their experiences.
